Feed the Need Ministry and Belmont Baptist Church’s College and Career Class met at OK Coin Laundry and washed clothes for and fed fourteen individuals, eight of who live up under the Queen City Pkwy bridge. Afterwards, Rico discussed the block party coming on May 15. We had a prayer circle, then gathered to hear the awesome testimony from Roy, a homeless person who has been taken in by people at Free Chapel, followed by some great Biblical discussion. We noticed a real improvement in a number of people present – less evidence of drugs and alcohol, better physical appearance and state of mind, and a real sense of hope. What was really cool is that Christians from four churches across several denominations and homeless people were all gathered together in Biblical discussion standing in the parking lot in front of the OK Coin Laundry as the sun set and the Spirit of God plainly present.

Rico cooked a full Easter dinner (a few days early) including bar-b-qued chicken, a delicious baked mac-n-cheese dish, green beens, creamed corned, mashed potatoes, cucumbers, rolls and lemon cake. Man was it good. We fed about a dozen homeless individuals. Rico prayed before the meal. One of men lost his mother this past week and his brother is in prison. He was contemplating suicide, although it was unclear how serious he was, or whether he just drumming up sympathy so someone would buy him a bus ticket to New Orleans. It was hard to know what to do, but our policy is typically we don’t give out money or buy tickets to places. Other than that, we had some good fellowship. Video

In partnership with Blackshear Place Baptist Church, Feed the Need Ministry delivered boxes of food, clothing and personal items to ten individuals “under the bridge” on Industrial Dr. We met several new homeless, one who was just released from prison, and another who was from Mexico (most likely illegally). Before departing, Rico led the group in prayer as we all held hands.
