One of the primary material functions Feed the Need Ministry provides are good square meals for the homeless on Monday evenings at the Town View Coin Laundry in downtown Gainesville and at “the bridge” and at My Sister’s Place on Thursday evenings. For Monday night meals a number of volunteers coordinate with each other on the meal plan, preparation and delivery. Meals typically consist of an entree, a salad, sides, a desert, and bottled water or soft drinks. Prior to saying grace and the beginning of the meal someone, either Rico, a volunteer, or one of the homeless, will present a short message.
For Thursday evening meals food is packaged and donated by Loretta’s Country Kitchen restaurant in Oakwood and picked up at 4:00pm either by Mr. Kim Anderson of Oakwood Ace Hardware and his wife Arlene, or by Rico when Kim is unavailable. Drinks are either donated or purchased by Kim or FTNM. The meals are delivered to people “under the bridge” first at around 4:30pm and then to My Sister’s Place at a quarter past five. Any left over meals are distributed to various homes of those in need.
